Her Story
Chen Chia-Ling grew up in a middle-class family, and her family was very supportive of her pursuit of sports at a young age, uncommon for a typical household in Taiwan in the 1980s. When Ms. Chen was an elementary student, she was on the school track and field team. After she entered junior high school, the coach there coached both the track and field team and the weightlifting team, so she was asked if she was interested in weightlifting, and that was the start of her weightlifting training and career.
