Chen, Chia-Ling as a Weightlifter

What brought Ms. Chen to weightlifting

When Ms.Chen was a track and field athlete in elementary school, her uncle who lived in the urban area helped her look for a school with a good track and field team and asked her to go to that junior high school. The coach there coached both the track and field team and the weightlifting team, so she was asked if she was interested in weightlifting, and that was the start of her weightlifting training and career.

LIAO,CHIH-MING and HSIN,CHIEN-MING were two important coaches and influential people in Ms. Chen's weightlifting career.  Ms. Chen said that most athletes were physically punished or scolded at that time; however, her coaches never did that to her. They set good examples and taught her well. Moreover, they respected her ideas.  The ways they trained her made her who she is now, so she thinks both coaches had a profound influence on her.

The Driving Force Behind a Weightlifter

Ms. Chen thinks that an athlete should really love the sport he / she chose.   "At that time, I went to the training ground in a happy mood every day, and moved towards the goal I set so that I can make progress every day.  The driving force behind my progress was that I knew exactly what I wanted, not just dealing with daily training, and not just for the coach's expectation."
